Mō te tūranga | About the role:

We’re seeking an enthusiastic Āpiha | Registration Officer to join our Te Ohu Rēhitatanga | Registration team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This role has been created to support the processing of overseas teacher applications, helping us respond to increased demand while maintaining a high standard of service.

In this role, you’ll assess and process registration applications from overseas teachers, ensuring they meet the Council’s standards, policies, and legislative requirements. You’ll engage regularly with teachers, principals, and professional leaders, providing clear, high-quality advice and guidance on registration and certification processes.

You’ll also work closely with the Registration Manager and Team Leaders, offering recommendations on application outcomes and escalating complex cases when needed.

You’ll bring a positive attitude, a genuine passion for helping others, and enjoy being part of a collaborative and engaging team. Attention to detail, a methodical approach, and strong customer service skills are essential for success in this role.

 

To be successful, you will have:

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area
  • Strong competency of Tikanga, Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Te Reo Māori
  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience of Pasifika values and cultures is highly regarded and fluency in a Pasifika language is an advantage
  • Basic understanding of the provisions of the Education and Training Act 2020 relating to teacher registration and certification and the Council’s Registration Policy
  • At least 1 year of experience in a service delivery role within the public or private sector
  • Some previous experience using ERP platforms or CRM database systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Planner, OneNote, and intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially when processing large volumes of data
  • The ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being a supportive and effective team member
