Mō te tūranga | About the role
We’re seeking a Senior Advisor Initial Teacher Education (ITE) to join our Te Ohu Kaupapahere | Policy and Implementation team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role has been created to provide specialist ITE expertise during a key transition period. You’ll support the Council to review, refine, and reshape how we deliver our ITE functions, contributing to process improvements and strategic change.
You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders including the Ministry of Education and NZQA to design, develop, and implement initiatives that align with our evolving direction.

You’re a strategic thinker and trusted advisor who thrives in a collaborative environment. You bring a strong understanding of the education sector, excellent relationship-building skills, and a culturally responsive approach to your mahi. To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Relevant Teaching Qualification
- Strong competency of Tikanga, Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and Te Reo Māori
- Demonstrated understanding and/or experience of Pasifika values and cultures is highly regarded. Fluency in a Pasifika language would be considered an advantage
- 3–5 years’ experience in the education sector
- Experience in project management and process improvement
- Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences
- Experience working with a regulatory or professional teaching organisation would be advantageous
- Familiarity with the Machinery of Government
